The Hotness of Hollywood
Sequoia National Park is arguably the most famous of all national parks. Almost 60 years after it was established, its name is still very much associated with the park. However, the park itself is not famous for its name alone but for its beauty and natural surroundings. The park is practically idyllic, with massive, clear blue skies and lush greenery. What makes the park so enticing is its proximity to the city of Los Angeles. There are wonderful temples of nature to walk through and stunning views of the city skyline. Additionally, the park is home to one of the most recognizable bears in the world – the Coed. The hotness of Hollywood is certainly no secret. In fact, the queue for the bear exhibit at the National Geographic Celebrity Center in Los Angeles is the stuff of legend. Thankfully, the hotness of Hollywood is not the only attraction at the park that attracts tourists. The hiking and rockclimbing trails are also incredibly beautiful. The park is also home to a small zoo with more than 100 animals, and a botanical garden with over 50 species.
The History of the Sequoia National Park
The first major national park to be established in the United States, the Sequoia National Park in California was established in 1892. The park is named after American mining engineer John W. Sequoia, who was among the first to discover gold in the Sierra Nevada mountains near California’s border. However, the name was not his only inspiration. The park also features a large granite outcrop called the “Stag Rocks” which he named after his friend and co-worker, John W. Sackett. The park is also known for its beautiful red sandstone cliffs with stunning views of the city of Los Angeles. As a part of the National Parks system, the Sequoia does not have a formal name. Instead, the park is known informally as the “Hills and Moistures of America.”
The Movie that Changed the Game
In fact, the movie that changed the game for the park came in 1969 when National Geographic established the celebrity center at the park. The center was created to provide employees with an environment for bonding and showcasing the members of the staff. With the first official exhibit of the center opening in 1976, the first decade of the new millennium became known as the “Year of the Banned Film.” However, nary a ray of light from the Forbidden City or the Great Wall of China could be seen in the surrounding darkness. Instead, a raucous, fiery, and extremely graphic depiction of sex, lust, and bizarre sex acts was depicted on the park walls. The remaining parks in the system were soon followed suit.
A Turning Point in Sequoia’s Journey
The most significant turning point in the park’s history came in 1976, when the National Geographic Celebrity Center was integrated into the park. This was the first time the center was located in a city and was immediately followed by the addition of the first interagency marine eagle program in the world Hibooz . The first year of existence of the program saw an increase in visitors from Asia, who became the first billion-dollar customers. However, the most significant impact of the program was a dramatic decline in the number of visitors from Central and South America, who by this time had largely disappeared. As a result, the number of visitors to the park plummeted by 50 percent between 1976 and 1981. It was at this point that the park realized it needed to up its game if it was to survive.
The Winter of Discontent: Putting Down the Recordbook
As this was happening, the Park Service was on the cusp of publishing its second national book, entitled “Reservations: The National Parks System and the Wilderness.” The book was an attempt to document the history of the park system, including its evolution from the opening of the 1900s up to the present. However, the most significant part of the book was the dedication to the late parks presenter, Homer H. Hill. This was the first national park exhibit to be shown outdoors, and it was Hill’s dedication to the park system that motivated visitors to make the most of the event. However, the Winter of Discontent was to come.
A Springboard for Future Adventure Planning
While it was leading the charge against the recordbook, the Park Service also needed to take stock of its resources. This meant Must Reads, a special series on National Geographic magazine devoted to the most-noted attractions and parks in the world, was published in late 2011. However, the first selection to make the list was the Park Service, which had fallen just shy of the top 100. The magazine called the top attractions in the world – and the Park Service – and it was clear that the top spot was currently held by the National Parks System, whose elitist conceits had been left unhindered in the dust of newer attractions and concepts. The magazine also noted that the Park Service was also building a new home for its old magazine-entry: a new magazine called, of all things, Adventure.
