B. S. Chandrasekhar is a famous leg spin bowler of India who represented the Indian national cricket team in 58 tests and 1 ODI. He along with E.A.S. Prasanna, Bishen Singh Bedi and Srinivasaraghavan Venkataraghavan comprised the famous Indian spin quartet that ruled the roost of spin bowling in the 1960s and 1970s. He was affected by polio at a very young age which left his right arm withered. He made his Test debut against England at Bombay in 1964 capturing 4 wickets. He was named the Indian Cricket “Cricketer of the Year” in the same year. He was instrumental in India’s first series win in England, capturing 6 wickets for 38 runs at the Oval in 1971. His performance was adjudged “Indian Bowling performance of the century” by Wisden in 2002. His consistency as a bowler in 1971 was duly praised when he was named one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1972. He played a key role in India’s victory in Australia in 1977–78. During that series he took 6 for 52 in both innings in the same Test match and became the first bowler in the history of Test cricket to do so. He was born in 1945 in Mysore but moved to Bangalore at a very young age. He received Padmashri and Arjuna Award in 1972.
