Dilip Vengsarkar is a famous Indian cricketer. who was an important batsman for India in the late 70’s and early 80’s. He batted at No. 3 or No. 4 and was one of the Indian batting pillars. He made a memorable innings of 146 runs and in 1979, in the second Test match in Delhi, he won almost the game for India against Asif Iqbal’s Pakistan team. India, chasing the target of 390 on the last day, took 364 runs and took 6 wickets. When West Indian fast bowlers dominated international cricket, they had 6 centuries against Michael Holding, Andy Roberts and Malcolm Marshall. He had a unique distinction to make hundreds of runs in three consecutive Tests at Lord’s. He led India in ten test matches He played till 1992 and at the time of his retirement, he was second in the list of centuries and centuries after Sunil Gavaskar. After retirement, he became a cricket administrator, he was awarded the CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award by the Government of India by the Arjuna Award, Padma Shri and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (CCI).
