    How To Treat Whiplash At Home

    Whiplash is often associated with being involved in a car accident. However, it can be caused by a very sudden and large movement of the head. The good news is that this type of injury can take just two to three months to get better. However, it’s not always clear how to treat whiplash at home.

    Let’s take a look at a few things you can do if you are suffering from whiplash.

    Take Some Painkillers

    Whiplash can be quite a painful condition to suffer from. Taking painkillers, however, can help to relieve some of the pain and swelling.

    You can typically buy over-the-counter medication to help with the pain. Just make sure that you always take the painkillers as per the instructions on the package. If the pain is very bad or it doesn’t get better within a few days please speak to your doctor.

    Do Some Exercises

    Any physical therapist will tell you that it’s OK to exercise your neck. However, you have to make sure you are careful. The last thing that you want to do is to make things worse. Some of the exercises you could be given include rotating your neck, rolling your shoulders, and tilting your head from side to side.

    Go About Your Daily Activities

    You may be tempted to rest your neck if you’re suffering from whiplash. However, most people can go about their daily activities.

    When you go about your daily activities you help your neck and head to recover. If you decide to rest please make sure you don’t rest for a very long time. You could potentially make your neck and head worse.

    Apply Heat Or Ice To Your Neck

    Some people may find that applying heat to their neck can help. Others prefer to use an ice pack.

    Either way, applying heat or ice for up to 15 minutes every three hours can help. Please make sure that you place a cloth or towel in between the heat or ice pack. When you do, you’re less likely to burn your skin.

    The heat or ice that you apply to your neck can help to reduce pain and swelling. Apply heat and ice every 3 hours until you feel better.

    Whiplash is not a nice condition to suffer from. However, with a bit of care, you can recover from it. Please be careful and make sure that you don’t strain your neck any further.
