Orphan: First Kill
Following on from the 2009 eerie horror film “Orphan”, “Orphan: First Kill” is a must-watch to find out the backstory on the imposter, Leena Klammer, who poses as a 9-year-old girl. First Kill highlights where Leena originated from, including how she had made it to the United States. If you had ever wondered who her previous adoptive family, that were mentioned in the original film, were, then First Kill has all your answers. Although aspects of this family were far from normal too. Since 2009 was quite a while ago, you may need to rejog your memory. Play Orphan on the big screen for maximum effect (for TV wall mounting, click here) Check out this film, and then the new one, to watch Isabelle Fuhrman step back into the role of the spine-chilling orphan.
Bodies, Bodies, Bodies
If you are a fan of the Scream franchise, and their style of horror, then Bodies, Bodies, Bodies, should be first, or even next, on your watch list. The film focuses on a group of rich young adults at a mansion “hurricane party” who decide to play a murder game name “Bodies, Bodies, Bodies” However, when someone at the party eventually gets killed, little do they know that the game is becoming real life. One of the best horror movies of 2022 in our opinion, and that’s not only because Pete Davidson is one of the main characters!
Scream
If you aren’t too keen on horrors, but enjoy a scare to a certain extent, then the new Scream film released at the beginning of this year is your Halloween go-to. If you are a fan of the scream franchise, you will notice some similarities in the fifth film of the franchise that simply goes by “Scream” much like the 1996 original. This modernised version features our favourites including Sidney, Gale, and Dewey, however this time, they are helping others who have fallen into what was once their shoes back in the day. Ghostface is back, but this time with a twist, and it is one that you cannot miss!
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The 1973 classic is back this year with a new adaptation of the deadly Leatherface. This time around, the fearful character sets out on another killing spree after his current home is at risk of being lost by a pair of young entrepreneurs. If you are not a fan of gore, then certainly give this one a miss! However, if you are willing to take on the challenge of watching Leatherface rise with his chainsaw once again then give it a watch. The only survivor of his previous killing spree also makes an appearance years after Leatherface had traumatised her and her friends, but what will Sally’s fate be this time around? Bringing the events of the 1970s sabotage into the 2000s, this slasher is, in our opinion, one of the best horror movies of 2022.
The Black Phone
The Grabber’s mask is enough to make anyone’s blood curdle. This masked child serial killer stars in The Black Phone as he makes his way through the streets of a Denver suburb. Finney, a young boy, eventually gets captured by The Grabber himself, much like his other peers and classmates, and finds himself in a basement unable to escape with his only form of communication being a black phone on the way. The Grabber’s victims, who have been killed, advise Finney on how to escape but will he manage to? Or, will the help of his sister Gwen’s psychic powers lead her to her brother’s whereabouts?
Smile
Just in time for Halloween, being released at the end of September is the psychological thriller, Smile. The film features Dr. Rose as her mind begins to turn on her after witnessing extremely unsettling events including the death of her patient. Although we have not yet witnessed the movie, the spine-chilling film cover, alongside the petrifying trailer, we can guarantee that this one is one for the watching. To intensify the scare, make sure to watch it on the big screen at your local cinema, in that case, you know you are not the only one experiencing the scare! This will surely be one of the best horror movies of 2022.
