La Roche-Posay has its roots in France, although it is based in New York. This brand was founded in 1975 in a French town of the same name, and it continues to manufacture products there today.
Two key features of the French town of La Roche-Posay can help you understand the brand’s hype.
The first is the thermal springs in the town. All of the brand’s products are infused with water from these springs. La Roche-Posay says the water is full of minerals and antioxidants (such as selenium), which help promote smoother and hydrated skin.
A second spa is the town’s Thermal Center, which specializes in balneal – or thermal water – treatments. Many cultures throughout history have used balneotherapy to soothe skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
The La Roche-Posay Thermal Centre was formed in 1869, but was renamed in 1905. It receives 8,000 visitors each year seeking treatment for various skin conditions.
La Roche-Posay’s philosophy can be summed up as follows:
Since 2009, My pham La Roche Posay has been dedicated to helping people recover from skin-related side effects of cancer treatments. Its brand is about “enhancing your quality of life through skincare.”

How we chose
- Besides reading more than 100 reviews across multiple retail sites, I polled my friends and got an overwhelming response from those using La Roche-Posay products. To try the products myself, I sought recommendations from people whose goals were similar to mine. Even though I had not used them myself, I included a few products that people were enthusiastic about.
- You can likely find these products at your local Target or Walgreens.
Pricing guide
Even though these products are often pricier than those available at a drugstore, La Roche-Posay isn’t as costly as some high end brands today.
- $ = under $20
- $$ = $20–$40
Is La Roche-Posay effective?
Even though the reviews are overwhelmingly positive, this does not mean everyone will have a positive experience with La Roche-Posay products. In fact, based on the 100-plus reviews I’ve read while writing this article, it’s safe to say a lot of people have made La Roche-Posay their go-to face wash, moisturizer, and SPF.
La Roche-Posay: my experience
My previous routine left my face feeling dry and dull, so I was looking for hydration and even skin tone when I tried La Roche-Posay.
I’ve been exclusively using La Roche-Posay products for just over 3 weeks and my skin looks and feels bouncy and hydrated. I have a lot of smile lines, but they seem to be less severe now than 3 weeks ago. Generally, I am satisfied with my skin tone – dare I say, I even feel glowing?!
